GE Fridge fails to run.

It sounds like the fridge has started to run for 5-10 seconds and then it clicks off. Is it most likely to be the Overload PTC (WR07X10131), the Capacitor (WR62X79) or the compressor? The fridge model is GTH17GBTZRWW.

Need to see how many amps it pulls when trying to start to fuly test the compressor. Just because it ohms does not completely rule it out. You will need to ohm from common to start, common to run, then run to start and write down all the readings. The first two should add up to equal the result from start to run. Shake the overload to see if it rattles. If so that is a pretty sure sign it's bad.

Start relays can be bad and NOT rattle. If the compressor is not shorted,replace the start relay.

They don’t always rattle when they are bad, 99% of the time they will rattle if they are bad but I took one off the other day and broke the relay apart to find a small electronic board. Up until that point I didn’t know there was such a relay. Yes this one was bad (even before I broke it open) and no it didn’t rattle.

Bottom line I agree if it does rattle you know it is bad but if it doesn’t it can still be bad. You are better off trying one rather than condemning the compressor.

Had the same problem with a 2007 GE Profile PDS22SISBLSS.  Found locked rotor current of about 7 amps.  Compressor very hot.  Replaced motor run capacitor and current went to about 1 amp.  Compressor has been working fine since then.
