Loud Whirlpool Dishwasher with Some Leaking
« on: December 23, 2011, 11:01:34 PM »
I may be helping another person out.  This time it's a dishwasher.  It's very load and is leaking a bit underneath.  Another appliance guy quoted $400.  I would like to save them some money.  model#gu1500xtlb2  Do I need to replace pump part#W10239404 or the whole pump assembly part#W10239405

Thanks!

Have you seen were it's leaking from?

If it's just leaking around the were the motor connects to the sump then I would replace just the Circulation Motor Part# W10239404.

I have replace a lot of these motors were the seal has started to leak, got the motor bearing wet and started to get noisy.

I actually didn't take a look at it.  I was just relayed the info that the other repair guy told them.

Hard to say for sure without first looking at it, but I can't remember the last time I changed the complete sump.
Think the last sump I changed was because it was so built up with hard water deposits and could not be cleaned up.

Could be leaking some place else and the noise coming from the food chopper, but that would not be something I would commonly find.
Most likely a leaky motor seal and noisy motor.

Let us know what you find.

Did you get a chance to look at it yet?

No, it's a family member that I see about once a year.  I was also waiting for another family member to check and see if he may have the part on hand.  I'll let you know if I get a chance to repair it.

Okay, I got over there tonight.  Here's a video (before I replaced the motor) so you can hear the sound that it was making.  I had the motor with me so I replaced that.  It sounded more quiet.  But as you can see in the video it is leaking near the drain pump.  The pump is a bit loud as it drains out. part# 661658

Part 661658 Dishwasher Drain Pump, AP3133590

It appears to be leaking more from the detachable plastic part that the drain hose clamps onto.  Is that the thermistor?

See pic here:

Any suggestions?  Replace drain pump and thermistor?

I have seen them leak there too. You can pull it off and look at the seal inside.
You can also pull it off and connect the drain hose directly to the pump and run it to see if the leak stops.

I can't seem to find that part on the diagram for your model.

It seems like a very weak point in the drain system held by one screw...  What is that part called?  I need the part number so I can order it.

Good Job.  O0

Could you see if the old one was cracked or if the seal failed?
