Watchout for GE parts ripoffs

Called out to repair GE Monogram under counter Ice Machine, found that crusty water had seized both pumps and they needed to be replaced Reservoir pump #WR57X10073 wholesale $94.95. Circulating pump WR57X10074 wholesale $95.59 received the new pumps, both in FSP boxes with GE labels. Low & behold inside the boxes were Whirlpool pumps 2313705 and 2313628 both wholesale at less than $45 each.  How does one explain this to a customer if they were the one to discover this theft.  Hopefully they will see I also was duped.
Moral to the story: When working on any appliance pull the bad part and write down the part # and manufacturer you may find it to be a Supco part in gold wrapper with a platinum price.
I stole $100 from that customer or GE did. China can have GE, I certainly don't recommend then. I say anything BUT ge.

Does GE or Whirlpool make the ice maker or does some other company make them for both GE and Whirlpool?

Is it common for GE parts to cross like that to a whirlpool part?

The guys we order parts from say G.E. stands for Generally Expensive because the cost on ge parts are higher then other parts a lot of the time.

Common occurance really,  those ge icemakers are whirlpools from what I've seen.  We have switched our strategy with maytag frontloaders,  for a while they were samsung products,  nothing like paying twice for a box that says maytag with a box that says samsung inside of it!!

Interesting, so the  Amana ned7200tw dry can use either a DC97-14486A or the factory replace 35001119 heater assembly, nice.

I talked to 2 of my suppliers this morning and both said it was pretty common for GE parts to cross with Whirlpool. I asked why they except shipment of parts in FSP boxes with GE labels pasted over the FSP number, it is a deceptive trade practice.
One of the suppliers (in Dallas) stopped handling Subzero because of the same practice, only they priced 3 times the cost of original manufacturer price. Example Ice-O-Matic harvest timer with micro switch for an under counter ice machine was $174   $35 shipping and handling from Subzero the same part from Ice-O-Matic was $54   $13 shipping, pretty significant difference, I would say.
 
This industry is in sad condition when Companies like GE & Subzero have to steal from there customers because they are losing sales when all they produce is junk.

Ge has always been bad about pricing. I had a guy tell me he wanted the exact part and was willing to pay more for it even though at the time a standard robertshaw push to turn stove eye switch was way cheaper. When the part arrived it had a robertshaw generic switch inside the GE package. They charged him top dollar and still got a generic. happened more than once. Only good deal I ever saw from GE is there generic 25-50 termination thermostat.
