KitchenAid KAWE550VWH0 won't spin.

Hi folks,

I'm new to this site. Hope you're all doing well.

My moms KitchenAid KAWE550VWH0 washer (purchased in fall 1989) will not spin (it fills, agitates, and drains properly). The responses I've found on the internet seem to express that both non-agitation and spin symptoms (together) could be signs of a faulty/broken coupler. Can a faulty coupler, however, cause the agitator not to spin, but agitate properly? I have a bad feeling that it might be more than the coupler (transmission?), and hence, more work than I, the appliance repair novice, can handle.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

If that coupler is wallowed out it might allow for agitation but a load of wet clothes may make it slip like I had in this instance:
