port a torch tip size for 4 ton heat pump compressor
« on: September 23, 2016, 08:57:35 AM »
Hey guys, simple question for you experienced hvac techs.  I have the porta torch and have to do a 4 ton heat pump compressor swap today or monday, never worked on a  pump this big, normally do commercial refrigeration, and the mitsubishi, fujitsu mini splits.  What is a good torch head size, normally use a 1 or 2 (for my particular think its J1 or J2), dont think thats big enough to get the tubing hot enough for the solder to flow on 3/4" or 1" copper.
Wondering if I should stop and get a bigger tip.
What is a good size?
thanks!
