Old Furnace blower wire colors don't match up...
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:34:37 PM »
First off thanks for taking the time to look at this question! I'm pretty handy and figured that I could replace the blower motor on my furnace myself. The old motor occasionally has trouble starting and with plenty of tlc and the occasional helping hand the blower starts. So I took pictures and ordered a replacement with identical specs, unfortunately the wire colors don't match up. If someone with a kind heart could take a look at the pictures I'm attaching and give me an idea if this would work I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks so much!

the motor may be fine. Did you take an Mf reading of the start cap? Could be just a bad capasitor

If you Ohm between the white wire and all the rest you will find that the greater number is the slowest speed and it goes to the smallest which is the fastest speed. The two brown wires are for the capacitor. The new motor will need a matching capacitor for it. I saw all the wires but a white one. Usually black is the fast, red is the slow and usually orange and yellow are medium 1 and medium 2. For a normal furnace you would usually use the red wire for heat and black for cool.
