Whirlpool Water Heater Gurgling/Noisy
« on: December 08, 2014, 09:08:54 AM »
When I bought my house it came with a Whirlpool Water Heater. It's about 4 years old. When it's heating, it makes a really loud gurgling, banging noise. It's been getting progressively louder as time goes by. Just checking to see if this is normal.

I don't repair water heaters, but like you I have seen my fair share of water heaters well I have been working on other appliances. Can't say I have ever heard one making any kind of gurgling sound, ever.
Hope you find our website helpful.

I work on water heaters for $ears, and have heard my fair share of weird noises. But never any as loud as my piece of crap water heater. I'm just wondering if I need to start saving up for a tank less system.

save for a new one. The gurgling you are hearing is the heating element heating the water up and causes popping/gurgling of the sediment. The element is surrounded by sediment.
You can try and flush the tank but you may end up causing it to fail faster or springing a leak

It's gas. I'm going to flush this POS and hope for the best.
