Refrigerator not cooling and lots of frost in freezer.
« on: December 16, 2011, 03:28:31 PM »
Whirlpool Refrigerator
Model ET8CHMXKQ06

From what i have read so far It seems my refrigerator has a defrost problem.
Compressor run, fans run, refrigerator is getting warm and the freezer is still working.

There is a lot of frost build up in the freezer section.

Does this sound like a defrost problem to you?

What parts will I need to fix it?

yes, its a defrost problem, 3 things it can be, defrost control, heater , or defrost thermostat. you can test heater & thermo. with a meter.

Hi,

Sounds like a defrost problem to me.

There are only three defrost parts and here they are for your model.

1. Defrost Heater
2. Defrost Thermostat
2. Defrost Timer

You can check the three of them with a multimeter for continuity.

The defrost should have some resistance on the meter if it's good.
The defrost thermostat should have 0 resistance when it's cold.
The defrost timer motor can be checked with a meter for continuity too.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I feel better with my thinking it was a defrost problem now that you both agree.

I'm going to order all three parts. They are cheap enough and if one defrost part failed maybe another one is about to also.

Thanks for the info.  O0
