Water drained but would not spin...just a humming sound like motor was trying to run.  Followed advice and looked under washer...parts of coupler and black ring on floor.  Went to Sears and got coupler kit and followed video and thought I had successfully replaced coupler.  Now washer not only does not spin (no motor sound either) but now water will not drain.

What next?  Seems like maybe no electrical connection...thought I had connected everything correctly but checked again.  Don't see anything obvious...but two red connections coming out of wire harness next to motor (?) hook into round metal/plastic piece.  These two could be switched but look exactly alike (these were not in repair video).  Tried to swap them but still won't work.

Thanks for help!
Debra

Im not expert, but i had a similar problem, in my case there was a cloth stuck in the water pump, so the pump doesnt let the motor run, i recommend to detach the 2 plastic hoses from the pump and make it rotate to confirm that its free....

If you removed the cabinet from the washer to do the repairs make sure you plugged the lid switch back in when you put the washer cabinet back on.

Did you plug the capacitors wires back in? Is the capacitor ok? Did you reconnect the lid switch? Is the lid switch ok?

Thanks all.

Yes, pump rotates freely.
Yes, reconnected hinge switch that was disconnected when I removed cabinet...checked spin switch and it appears okay too.
Yes, reconnected wires to capacitor but don't know how to tell if it is still okay.

Ha, thought I was doing pretty well replacing coupler (video was HUGE help) and all would be working fine.

That's the capacitor JW is talking about. Should not matter if wires are switched around on it.

Can you hear the lid switch click on and off as you open and close the washer lid?

I don't see how you could have messed up the capacitor by replacing the coupler, but in any case I use my multimeter to check capacitors.

Some basic multimeters may not be capable of checking capacitors like this.

Thanks...I don't have multimeter so will just assume capacitor is still fine.  Any other suggestions?  I think I will retrace steps and make sure coupler is installed correctly and all other connections tight.  I may have to bite the bullet and just get another washer.  I am pretty stubborn though and hate to think I went thru coupler diagnosis and replacement for nothing!

I hear too many bad opinions of new HE washers...clothes don't get as clean, old water smell, etc.  This old Kenmore agitator top loader did a pretty good job for us and dryer is still fine.

Check your connections including the connector to the timer. I found one backed out slightly and I shoved the connection back in tight and she started up.

don't buy a new washer, you have the best machine out there, it has to be a simple wire problem. direct drive washer are the best in the business & easiest to repair.

You might have bent a pin in the motor connection. Seen it.

I would lift the console and jump the lid switch harness just to verify that is not the problem before tearing it back down.

I agree with JW, many times newbees bind a pin in motor connector, last one down, washer will then do nothing. check that carefully.

Well, broke washer down, re-installed coupler just in case, checked all connections and pins and they looked fine.  Even flipped switches in garage for washer outlet.  Don't know what changed but now washer at least hums when I turn it to spin, then I smell maybe burning rubber?  Anything else I can try?

Thanks a lot!
