Whenever the used appliance store gets an LG or Samsung refrigerator in for repair they call me to do the repair. A while back they had a Samsung french door with an ice maker problem. It's one where the ice maker has it's own evaporator. Long story short, 250 page service manual (just that model) 10 flow chart and diagnostic tests, and 4 hours later just to diagnose it. (it was a good learning experience).

How's the laptop been working for your wife?

What did you end up finding wrong with the ice maker that has it's own evaporator?

The hard drive needs to be replaced. She called hp but it was a month out of warranty so we'll have to wait till after Christmas to get one.

Funny story about the Samsung, In order to take voltage readings on one of the power boards, I had to use some single strand wire and insert them into the wire connectors because my fluke probes were to thick. After I replaced the board (expensive) I double checked the voltage readings so I told one of the guys I was going to wait till the next day to reassemble everything. I wanted to make sure it made ice. Later that evening the new owner seen it was making ice and decided to button it up. He didn't see the wires I had sticking out of the connectors and when he tried to put the metal cover on, Boom! Bye-Bye new board. This was a brand new $3000 Samsung. Ordered a second board, installed it, worked great.

That's to bad about the HD. Knock on wood I have never had a HD fail on me.

Did the customer end up paying for two boards then?

 It was one of those exchange under warranty refrigerators that he purchased from Charlie (You remember my old boss) so he had to buy both boards. His profit margin wasn't much more than one of his other refrigerators. I believe he ended up paying close to $600 for both boards plus $150 he had to pay me.
