GE gas (propane conversion) oven not working. Help!
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:34:33 PM »
My GE gas oven, model # JGBP28DEJ1CT, will not heat.  The range burners and broiler (both high and low) work fine.  I just refilled the propane tank.  I'm not sure if it was just odd timing, or if it related, but it seemed to stop working when the tank was just about empty.  Now when I set the temperature, nothing happens.  As I said, the broiler settings work fine.  I tried the self cleaning cycle, but again- nothing happens.  I did clean it by hand. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The ignitor up by the broiler element does glow when the broiler is started, and I don't smell any propane when trying to get the oven to warm up.....

I just checked the oven ignitor. It is not glowing, but I don't smell propane. Not sure if I should? ??? Is it like a pilot light where I would smell it around the burner if the ignitor is bad? The temp screen still says "Pre" indicating that it is trying to preheat.....

Check to see if the bake ignitor glows, start from there. If not check for continuity. If it does glow you must run an amperage test on it to see if it is good. Yes it can glow and be bad. 3.2-3.6 amps is a good ignitor.Below that it is bad.

Swap out the ignitors and then see if bake works. They are interchangeable. You won't have to be guessing if the ignitor is bad or the control is malfunctioning.
