Vertical modular washer notes
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:06:40 PM »
Robert brought a new fangled VM washer from the old folks home this afternoon. Hope to get some photos soon.  The lid is locked right now with no power on. Is that normal for these washers?
I reached under the bottom and removed the Tech Book. Yep it is a dang 48 page book.

So far here is what I have read:
How to get into diagnostic mode:

RESET: rotate ccw one or more times to reset then:

In 6 secs total, you must go:
1 click cw
wait half a sec
1 click cw
wait another half sec
1 more click cw
wait another half sec
1 click ccw
wait half a sec and
1 mo click cw
If you has been sucessful all the idiot lights will blink on and off at the same time about every half sec.
To enter fault code mode:
turn the cycle knob till all the idiot lights is off cept the last one marked DONE.
Hit start
To read code turn the cycle knob one click at a time.
you will see certain idiot lights come on.
The fault code consist of a F and an E. The F number indicates the area the fault occurred, and the E number tells which portion of that area went whack. Example: F0E2 is a suds error, F0 is fill sensing, while E2 is spin cycle. Probability of over use of soap or wrong stuff (takes HE). If you have determined the soap issue is cool then you have an obstruction in the pressure hose to transducer or objects between tubs.
All the error code is in a jacket inside the case which yall can retrieve from the bottom or take the top 2 screws out the hinges in the rear and advance the top forward one inch and lift it upwards in front then yall can access the tub and get the tech book out. yeah its a dayum book. LOL

Been working on that VM POS this afternoon. When you slide the top forward if you go too far a couple of hooks hold the top down. Crazy. The lid is locked now. Unplugged it is locked. I cannot get it to unlock plugged in. I took it off and let it hang still nothing. The wash is loaded with soap.

More from the swamp. I wonder if I should just get Robert to buy another switch? Is it supposed to be locked down even when it is unplugged?

I noticed on the locking switch their is a strong magnet floating at the locking point on the switch. Now why would there be need of a strong magnet???

I unplugged the switch which is still locked by the way. I get 97 ohms between yellow and white. I get open circuit between blue and white and red and white with the lid shut, so therefore the solenoid is working but the signal from the blue and red wires confirming a locked condition is not there. I am thinking now for sure the lid switch is wank. What do yall think?

Finally removed the lid switch. It rained over this weekend and water does get into the latch assembly on these. Seen it.
The model number was under the lid and the lid was locked so I had to remove 2 screws and wiggle the latch free from the strike. The model number is WTW4800XQ1.

The old number to the latch is W10238287. The new number is W10404050.

The new lid switch came just now and I opened it. It comes with 2 Bezels, a white and a gray one. Instructions are simple use either the white or the gray bezel and discard the old one. The new switch is spring loaded and moves easily the old one did not move at all. The new part even has a new snap in dohickey to make it easy to install. Hope to get er installed tomorrow.

I put the new switch on and the washer won't say nothing. No lights and it is locked. Must have a bad control too. Piece of crap!
