milk, etc.

If you could see what is actually down in there, I doubt you would want to make a milkshake out of the thing. Detergent and residuals will not be affected by a relatively weak form of lactic acid, but you might get a pint of some brownish colored butter out the drain hose :)

I guess someone in prison with no access to real chemicals would have to make do. In the free world, we use products like Affresh and Washer Magic to break down the buildups, depending on what they are. (JW doesn't need any more beer money this month...he's made his quota.)

Nooooooooo he wasn't IN prison! He had contracts with the jails to fix their machines when they went on the blink. ha ha ha
 :2funny:

Well it doesn't seem to have done any damage!

I was lucky fixing this because our machine is so new there was no gunk ANYWHERE. All water was clear or white and there was no mould or build up in the drawer or filter. The thing has probably done less than 50 loads in it's life.

By the time I finish with it this week catching up on all my washing, it will have another 50 racked up!

I'll donate to the site then.

My brother is trying to fix an old washing machine that keeps getting caught up with gunk in the filter after every wash so the clothes have black flakes all over them.

He needs to take the centre spindle out of a Hitachi top loader to have a good look at things. Any ideas on how to take the spindle out and what it could be?

Should I post this as a new topic?

Is there a Hitachi forum here?

Neeky, you are presenting a challenge that so far might go un-answered. We're a North American bunch with familiarity on specific brands.  You can always try having your brother or whoever is working on the machine to post a new separate topic in hopes that a technician with European and Asian product knowledge might respond....  Kind of like asking a Chevrolet mechanic about a Porsche.

Yes it might go un-answered, but please do start a new topic and ask.

Yeah I know. He's gonna take a pic of it and see if anyone knows. He's sure it's just a catch or something easy to release it but it has him dumbfounded. That's what you get for 6 years at university doing mechnical engineering.

Chevy and Porsche aren't that much different. One's just back-to-front!
Porsche break down a LOT LESS than your chevys.
And a Porsche has never had Chuck Norris's butt parked in it.

I'm a porsche fan  ;D
