Amana Washer Identify
« on: November 17, 2011, 10:09:17 AM »
My son was given a Amana washer that was his Grandmothers who died,It had very little use and was in Excellent condition. This washer had been sitting without use for 6 months before  getting it home . After hooking it up, It ran through one cycle and then began to smoke,it was the belt, and had burned and broken. I looked at it quickly and the drum and pulley spin free, the motor pump spin free.  I was going to get a new belt and run it and watch to see what was causing it to burn. What I am reading about burned belts on Amana/Matags  is not good.
I need to get a Model number for this washer ,the Model plate and serial number are located under the lid but its totally obliterated and unreadable I tried cleaning it and even using a blacklight to read it, no luck .The Diagram inside the control panel  is part no. 40101902. This is the Commercial quality stainless steel tub model . I think its about 8+ years old.
I also would like to know the easiest way to change the belt. It looks like I have to remove all the springs and lift the whole assy out to remove the pump ,to get at the motor pulley.
Any help would be appreciated
And is this washer worth fixing?
Thanks

Yes that looks like the machine
After reading the manual I will have to check the transmission to get the right belt.
I also read that to transport the washer that it required you to insert a plug into the bottom,to stop the mech from moving around. That was not done . I still dont know why the belt burned.
I will get back to you after the belt change
thank you

What?

I look up and order all parts by using the model number.
Post the model number for us and I will post the factory part number for the belt for you.

The full model number is located on the model/serial number tag that can be found on the washer.
Look under the lid of the washer for it first.

Yes the model number plate cannot be read, and it is under the lid, all that can be seen is silver,
no info. Is there another place that the number would be located? Under the console?
The manual that JWwebster  gave me looks like it (it doesn't give any model numbers) but I have no corresponding model number to look up any parts

The tag is the only place you will find the full model number, unless by chance the original owner happen to write it down in the owners manual.

Sometimes you can read the part number on the original belt too.
