Maytag Washer belt cooker Model # SAV2655AWW

So I have 3 of these different style Maytags to work on. One is an Amana I believe and I'm probably going to use it for parts. The other one needs a tub bearing and seal kit installed, of which I already purchased last week. The other one is also a Maytag that is almost identical to the second one and is smokin belts. I installed a new belt and it seems the brake is locked on it? All 3 model I have are the oddball Maytags that have the motor mounted directly underneath the middle of the tub. Needless to say I really hate working on these things and I try to avoid them. Therefore my lack of experience in repair and my experience is limited to only changing pumps and belts etc. Now I'm looking at at least 2 complete tear downs. Anyone have any advice. tips, tricks or videos to assist in me learning to deal with one of these? Also, what would cause the belt to burn up and not spin the tub? Thanks in advance!

On the burned belts ,most of them I see need center seals and bearings. I can't remember ever having a brake issue.

I tried turning the drive pulley by hand when the belt was off. It would rotate but the tub is not unlocking to spin. Could be? That's what I'm replacing on the other one. Maybe they ran it into the ground? Lol!

You can see the disk open and release the brake, if that happens it's usually the bearing.Dopes the pump turn freely, I have seen objects bind a pump.

Disk is froze. Will not release. Just took apart to verify. I can upload a video but it will be a little later.

Ok I got it. Disk has rust on it and I was able to pop it free with a flat head screwdriver. There is an obvious growl from the bearings but I cant tell if its the bottom transmission bearing or the tub? There is no obvious leaks sprayed on the sides or bottom of the cabinet? Hmmm?

Typically, If the bottom bearing mounted in the milk stool is bad, the top one is bad.  You will almost almost always a have water leak at the main seal, causing the upper bearing to get loud, and if let go long enough, the water will get into the lower bearing.  Does the machine with the "brake issue" have the typical oil spray around the inside of the cabinet?     Not all the bottom bearings go bad, but it really sucks to tear down the whole machine, replace the seal and main bearing, reassemble everything, then find out the bottom one is bad, just to tear it down again.

Yes that is the one I'm going to replace.    Just to be safe. Looks like I better order a few. Bad thing is that I know I have one or two floating around here somewhere. What are your suggestions on the sticking brake? Should I just remove all the rust with sand paper and a wire brush? I know I can't oil the sucker, LOL! I don't want to take the chance of it sticking again and destroying a $20 dollar belt.

Also, the one with the brake issue and growl has no obvious signs of leakage of grease or water inside the cabinet.

If you have that brake compression tool you take the pressure off the plate then remove it and the spring and sand down the brake. That is this thang right here. Now it won't hurt it at all to put some motor oil on there.Before you take it all aprt be sure and mark the location of every thing with arrows so it will all go back smoothly>

That is not the style Maytag I am working on. I wish it was though cause I can do one of those blindfolded   I have a totally different machine with the motor/pump mounted underneath the middle of the tub.
