Whirlpool Cabrio Tub Bearing
« on: October 29, 2011, 05:32:36 PM »
I have a Whirlpool Cabrio washer that has been used about 4 years. Averaging about 4 loads a week. This thing sounds like a jet during the spin cycle and is slinging grease underneath. From internet research I've found that the bearing is made into the tub and has to be replaced as a whole unit at about 300 bucks for this part. Anyone have this problem? I am really upset I have used it for only 4 years and have this problem. Any fixes for this other than spending almost half the cost on one part?

nope that's the only thing that u can do. it is your tub bearing that is bad and you cant just get the bearing its self. you can just use it till it falls apart and then get a new one otherwise it is a expensive fix

I have run across this a number of times ,the shaft and bearing are pressed in the plastic outer tub and once they start screaming your only option is outer tub replacement .The job is easy enough but the part is expensive .

It's sad that it has only lasted 4 years. I don't think there is anything made nowadays that lasts anymore. I don't think I will be buying the same replacement part only to have to repeat this again in a few years. I will just count my losses and get another brand. I did call Whirlpool and complain about it. Made me feel a little better but I don't think they lost any sleep over it.

You could try removing the bearings a pressing in new ones.  Of course you'll need to replace the tub seal too.

From my observation I don't think pressing in bearings is an option .The issue is wreaking the plastic outer tub if you try messing with it .

You could try to find a donor that had a lightning strike (or the F1 error, and the customer didn't get the machine/control module replaced); if it's a 'Cabrio', it's the same part number. IMHO the bearing failure is relatively rare, based on the number of machines around here. Usually the machine's been leaking for a while before the bearing fails. We periodically see Whirlpool 'roll' and pay for the tub/shaft assy (even today!) Are you the original owner? If not try to have them call WPL to complain... (Whirlpool is working pretty hard to re-secure owner loyalty.)
