you should have 2 wires, 120 volts going to old compressor/relay.  sometimes there is another wire jumped to one of those that goes to the fan.

Red RUN; white START; Black Common:
Relay overload and cap are built into the new start device.
Find your 2 hot wires from the control and attach them to the start device 2 bare wires using the 2 wire nuts provided then shove the prefabricated compresssor wires onto the terminals as shown in figure 3 below. Click pix to enlarge:


Note: any other capacitors or overloads and junk that were there originally are discarded.

I use this ice box compressor to air up my tires on lawn mower and such.
I have  a simple power cord a going to them 2 bare wires.
