This is the only Whirlpool direct drive washer service manual I know about.

The answer to the first question is that the washing machine is making a slight knocking noise. Also thanks to JW for the link to your direct drive washer page.

When does it make this slight knocking noise?

Through the whole cycle, during the wash or spin cycle?
