Whirlpool Dryer TEDS68BQ2 does not heat
« on: April 04, 2008, 11:38:02 AM »
My Whirlpool Estate dryer won't heat. This may be related, when it began to first go bad I used to have to run it at least twice to get a load dry, even on the "auto-sense dry" feature. I thought at first whatever "auto-sensed" it dry was failing. Now it won't heat at all. It does tumble the damp clothes.

I replaced the cheaper parts, the thermostat (part 3390291) located by the heater element and the thermal fuse (part 3392519), but it still won't heat. I checked the heater element, the coils are intact and it shows a resistance reading of 9.8 on my meter. :(

Follow your heavy red wire from the heating element up to the timer. Where that wire goes into the timer is where usually a failure will occur. With the power disconnected from the wall and the heavy red wire removed from that terminal, clamp an alligator clip lead from your ohm meter to that terminal. It is most likely marked RH. Next with your meter preferably set on the audible setting so you Will hear a BEEEP when you get continuity(that how I do it anyway)place the other lead on any other terminal turn the timer knob slowly and listen out for the contact making and breaking continuity. The chances are the contact is burned inside the timer if you cannot get any continuity from any other terminal and this one while turning the knob through all the cycles.

Use your meter the other way around, set it to volts and check for 240 volts at the power cord terminals. If the breaker is half-tripped, it can run but not heat.

You can also use the voltmeter as the dryer is running to check the other thermostat you did not replace...the bias thermostat on the blower duct. If you find the 240 volts there while the dryer is running the thermostat is bad.

might your model number be TEDS680BQ2 ?

TEDS680BQ2 Wiring Sheet TEDS680BQ2 Wiring Diagram

looks like you may need the THERMAL CUTOFF 279816

unfortunately, that is part of a kit that includes  3390291 HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT
