Maytag oven problem?
« on: April 03, 2008, 09:40:43 PM »
This oven keeps burning stuff and getting way hotter than it is set for?
After about 10 pr 15 min an f-1 pops up on the screen and it keeps beeping?
Any clues guys ?
I just bought this building and i don't even think the oven had been used.
It was new.

Model mer5770aaq

If it's an F-1-3,  replace the oven sensor. An F-1 by itself on this product usually means a bad electronic control. Maytag does have a 5-year part warranty if yours is still less than that.

You can always OHM the sensor first. It should show 1091-1100 OHMs at room temp (75o)

If you find the serial number, I can tell you if it is new or not.

model# mer5770aaq
ser # 12346733yz
It has an f-1 code on the lcd
I am not sure how to test this with my ohms meter ? It has a wheel on the side to adjust ohms ,but i'm lost there. I just know if it makes the needle move i have continuity.

F-1 means a bad clock.  You CAN test the oven sensor probe if you simply want to rule out the possiblility that it is bad. Since you have an analog meter, set the resistance scale to Rx1 and touch both leads together. Use the side wheel to make the pointer go to the ZERO mark on the meter, then the meter is calibrated for OHMS. The sensor probe should have a room temperature reading of 1091 to about 1100 ohms. If it does, the clock is the only problem and should be replace.

Please open the manual that Al Capone offered you and read page 1-11 ! It's all there.

I got a reading of just over the (1 i'm assuming is 1000)  with the temp of around 68 in the room? I wish i had gotten the digital multi meter instead of this crappy analog meter.
What is an ok meter to buy too?

Wait till it gets comepletely cool and the locking mechanism should release the oven door lock. the way it works is when the oven exceeds 500 degrees a mercury bulb extends a sliding lock into the door so you won''t open the door and get blasted with 900 degrees of burning funk. The oven has to be completely cooled down before that mechanism can unlock the door.
