Dryer flame switch

I think I have my problem figured out but I want to ask - the flame switch on a HSI gas burner - it is supposed to be closed, then it opens when the igniter is up to temperature?  Or am I backward?

Smart aleck...the washer does not have a flame switch.  I have to tune it for maximum smoke the old fashioned way.

I have three choices:

1) The belt drive machine has a broken belt.  Find out why it broke and fix it.
2) The direct drive has a bad spin clutch (I think), although it could possibly be a broken gear in the transmission
3) Pick up my trailer from work tomorrow, go to my girlfriend's house, get her 20 year old Maytag, drag it upstairs alone, out to the street, load it into the trailer, drive it to my house (45 minutes), drag it to my house and down the stairs alone.

The last choice is my least favorite, I'm almost 52 years old and I have MS...but both if the other washers involve tipping them on their front or side...

But I gotta do something...

OK, short version about where I stand now:

1) Replaced the flame switch, now the black Kenmore dryer works.
2) The beige Kenmore dryer works fine, never had a problem with it.
3) The green Huebsch dryer still has not been completed.
4) The direct drive Kenmore washer is still down, never got around to replacing the spin clutch yet.
5) I determined that the motor was the problem on the 39 year old Kenmore belt drive and I did not want to put that money into it, since it needed other work too.  So I took off the expensive parts I installed and found someone to haul away the rest.  I got a 1989 Maytag with a broken pump for $50...I repaired the pump (which was not designed to be repaired), replaced the agitator (another $70) and it works great.
