Service manual for Maytag Bravos Dryer MGDB400VQ0
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:08:52 PM »
I need a service manual for this dryer. The one pointed to  - 8178644 - does not appear to be the correct manual for this unit. Is there another place to get service manuals for this dryer?

thanks

That is indeed a weird one. I have seen this one before but I do not know if we have a manual for that beast. That thing has 2 belts a big one to drive the drum and a small one to turn the fan. What seems to be the problemo?

Thanks for responding...any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

The wife reported last night that the load she was trying to dry (small, well wrung out) wasn't drying so we took the clothes out and left the dryer so I could check it this morning. I checked for blower action which seemed fine. I turned on the timed dry function and there was hot air coming out of the outside discharge vent which seemed to indicate that the problem might be with the sensor circuitry. I went ahead and ran the sensor controlled cycle and it also blew hot air??. One thing - I can't be sure without actually drying a load (which will be tonight) but although the vent is discharging hot air, it doesn't seem to be as hot as I seem to remember the last time I cleaned the outside vent. The only other thing I noticed is that the LEDs that indicate wet, damp, cooldown, dry, and wrinkle prevent no longer illuminate which might support the problem being with the sensor circuitry but if so, would it still heat - perhaps at some default setting if the sensors don't work?? I guess I should ask if the timed cycles are completely seperate from the sensor controlled cycles?

I did vaccum out the filter housing (didn't really need it) and wiped down the moisture sensors inside the drum(they looked OK) "just "to be sure".

I believe the tech sheet is also located inside the console . Its very detailed and good at checking all functions and values of components .

These dryers always pack full of lint below the filter housing where the lint turns the corner on its way to the blower wheel. Take it apart and have a look. The idler pulleys fall apart also. I've got pictures but their too large to post.

Wow That probably is what is wrong. Where is the duct fuse on this one Major? How do we get inside to this puppy? Any thing special we ought to know?

I'm surprised they didn't catch fire. I've owned and maintained my dryers for 50 years...none came anywhere close to this amount of dust collection. Do these dryers suffer from a design defect that allows this to happen or what?

The thermal fuse is mounted on top of the blower housing if I remember correctly. It has to be a design flaw. The vents are clear, short run. Elbow out-up 4 feet-elbow out the wall. Most of the common parts for these dryers are slightly different than standard Whirlpool/Maytag. Belt, idler pulley etc. Oh yeah, to get inside is easy. Putty knife to flip the lid.

Thanks for the tech sheet. It got me inside my MGDB850 dryer back in business.
The blower stopped blowing, drum was still turning.  The pulley on the blower came off.  Belt and pulley just sitting on the bottom of the dryer.
Is this just a freak thing, or is there some trick to tightening down the pulley?
Thanks again,
Carl

You need to put blue loc-tite  on the threads of the blower wheel before you put the pulley back on .If you don't it's just a matter of time before the pulley falls back off .
