Whirlpool direct drive Washer intermittant spin problem

I took the cabinent off and watched the spin cycle.  the clutch drum spins but not the basket.  I took the motor/gearcase out and inspected the clutch/brake assembly.  the Brake releases normally when i grab the white plastic paw and the basket turns freely.  the basket block is intact.  I looked at the clutch and the pads are not burned or scorched.  I am thinking it is time for a new clutch kit?  Too much slippage?

Could be a worn main drive gear or smashed spin pawl.

Must be the clutch. It is easy to replace. You can buy the whole clutch or the clutch liner. If you get the clutch kit it comes with a new brake cam actuator which is good because the little ear on it gets worn and won't grab.
