Kitchen Aid , ice dispenser
« on: August 20, 2011, 04:08:35 PM »
I have the diagram, and need to repair/replace the flapper door on the thru-the-door ice dispenser.   Looks like I need to take off the outer trim to get at the screws.   Does that just pry off....don't want to break it!!

( Problem: the flapper doesn't close, so things are icing up inside that area. )

Thanks.

Model KSCS25INSS02

I looked up your model number and I believe it is a little different then the one in the video JW post.

If you look at the bottom of the trim i think you will see two slots were you can insert a flat blade screw drive and just snap the trim off the front of the door.

AJ... we finally tore into this job.   The panel came off just as you described...pops out at the bottom and then slides up.

NOW for the bad news:  the prolem is that on one side, the plastic boss that the hinge pin for the ice door pivots on...is broken!   And the parts list shows that whole inner piece to be "not serviced".    It looks like we would have to replace the whole door for $600
It is pretty disappointing that you would have to replace a $600 door because it was built with a flimsy plastic part in  a crucial spot!     I am considering the superglue repair possibility, but assume that would not be reliable or long lasting.

Anyway , I greatly appreciate the help.  Think I will give Kitchenaid a piece of my mind!

The kit to repair this is 8201756.  It's easy enough to install the kit but be sure to follow the instructions carefully.  Once you stick the bracket in place, it's very difficult to unstick.

Once again...awesome help from this forum!!

The refrig. is about 4 years old, and my daughter did not take any extended warranties.
This kit looks like it may be worth giving it a try.   Thanks very much for that info.   I wonder if Kitchenaid will offer to send her one for free???

We got the reply from Kitchenaid, which said in so many words  "  Gee we had no idea that anything like this could happen, but oh well, nothing lasts forever"
