Kenmore series 90 heating coil stays on when door is open

OK, will do. So the problem was a coil fried and that bridged the electrical connection?

Yep, you always want to unplug because one side is hot straight to elements on a lot of appliances. Thanks let us know how ya come out on it.

  OK, Since all parts stores here in Canada were closed Sunday and Monday, I set out to grab the heater on Tuesday. Store closed early (grrrr) so part was picked up on wednesday but wasn't able to install until Thursday. Success!!!!   
Thanks JW, you diagnosed that right off the bat!
Side note: Sears wanted 90$ for the part and I had to wait for it to come in. My local appliance store had it for 50$ and it was on the shelf.  I picked up the whole unit, not just the coils.
I've never been so happy to dry clothes. At least the days were sunny when the dryer was down to dry clothes outside.
