Direct Drive Whirlpool clothes washer problem

Ok my washing mac
hine is making a terrible noise when spinning and then shuts down.
This is a Whirlpool whisper II, I will get the model number.

First I had a problem where I had to replace the coupler where one of the white plastic pieces was broken.

I'm now experiencing loud noise during spin and then the washer turns off.
I thought this noise was coming from clutch brake area and so I replaced the clutch but this made no difference.

I keep reading that maybe something is stuck in the outer tub and I should remove the tub does this sound like the next logical step and can you remove the tub nut with a mallet and screwdriver or is the spanner wrench necessary?

I know guys that remove the spanner nut using a screwdriver and hammer, but it's always nice to have the right tools for the job.

I would remove the agitator and look at the Drive Block to make sure it's not stripped out and slipping when it's spinning.

Try taking the pump off the motor shaft,leave the hoses on the pump,and then put the washer in the spin cycle and see what happens,maybe you have something in the pump.
