Maytag Washer leak
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:11:32 PM »
My wife is on my case to resolve a leak on the washing machine (Maytag model A612).
It appears to come from the top inside the unit towards the rear.  How do I access the area to determine the source. It only leaks when filling.
You have always been very helpful and patient in the past.

In the hose from water valve to fill spout is a black rubber piece called an injector bladder. When they get old they get thin and a pinhole leak occurs. Very common. The video shows how to swap out the tub seal but it also shows yall how to get into this puppy.

How to get into and service the machine.

There is a good chance that this is the part that is leaking.

Injector

Sometime I install this kit to repair them leaks too depending on how the hoses look, etc...

Injector Hose Kit

Here is the full parts diagram for your washer too, A612 Diagram

Great video.  Though video froze up after 5 mins.
I will attempt as soon as my granddaughter wakes up and I can make some noise.
You are the Tech who solved my Dryer problem a couple of years back.
Thank you.

I finally got to open up the washer, life gets in the way, including my 43rd wedding anniversary yesterday. You know I wasn't working on it then.

Anyway, it is leaking from a nylon rectangular unit that is just prior to the fill hose going into the tub. I could not determine the part name or number from the diagram.

My wife has the camera, otherwise I would have sent along a picture.

My above post explains the parts you need for repair.

If you want to fix it the red neck way you can remove that 'nylon rectangular unit' and replace it with a plastic hose coupler from the hardware store.

Figured out the part from your last reply.
I have ordered the injector hose kit.
I report back when part arrives and is successfully installed. ::)

In the meantime I am changing out the supply hoses.
Without thinking I disconnected the two black rubber hoses from the supply without noting whether the hot goes to the top or bottom port on the Maytag A612.
The machine is in a pan, so I cannot turn it to view the connections and my fat head won't fit behind the machine.
Can you help?

Part arrived next day. The nylon cage around bladder was the wrong configuration, ie.the tab for attaching was horizontal instead of vertical. I replaced it with the old cage and installation was a breeze, same day.
Hot water inlet is indeed the top inlet.

With all this, the overflow pan sprung a leak( the washing machine is on the second floor) oh joy. :tickedoff:

Thank you for your help.

Glad you got it fixed. It's been awhile sense I have done one of these, but as i recall you can use the new 'nylon cage' and just mount it with a plastic zip tie.

Thanks for the update.  O0
