The ice dispenser mechanism (chute door, etc.) was all gunked up with black mold, so I popped the front cover off and disassembled all the bits & pieces so that I could clean them in the kitchen sink.
No problems, except that I wanted to remove the push-button switch unit from the cover, and I couldn't figure out how to remove the switch. In looking at the exploded view drawing of the dispenser on "Sears Parts Direct," it looks to me like the switch clips in from the front, and would require peeling off the "overlay" to get to the switch.
Also, Sears doesn't have part numbers for the switch or overlay. So, I'm guessing that the overlay is factory-glued in place, and once you peel it off, it would be ruined. I expect that is why Sears only sells the cover assembly with the switch factory-installed.
