cooling problem

Hi guys, customer has cooling issues with jenn air sxs, customer told me that he see frost on back of freezer panel,which tells me it is a defrost problem,he also stated that the frig. shut down on him for a few days the only thing that worked was the lights,so i am thinking adaptive defrost.he said he started using spare,and when he came home from work the frig. was working and he had ice in bucket.what do you guys think. also if someone have manual it would be very helpful. thanks

Adaptive defrost control sounds right, would explain both symptoms.

Thanks guys for all of your help,the service manual helped a great deal. I got to the customer house and the back panel was frosted up pretty bad,so i shorted L1 & test,and using a plug in watt meter,which by the way it rocks,it's a time saver. I got 300 watts,so that told me the adaptive defrost was bad.I then removed the evap. cover and unplugged the heater asmbly. and tested it with my meter,they checked good.I removed the adaptive defrost and noticed a discoloration on some resistors. I changed out the old adaptive defrost,and melted all the ice on the coils,the only question i have is, the part was differant from the original part 61003988. Part house said it was substituted for part 61005988 this part did not have the test term. it said door instead,so how would one test this one,and do you guys think the part will be ok. thanks again for your help

1) that part number is not correct ...
2) "older" and "newer" ADC Boards have the same number 61005988
3) cycle the Cold Control 3 times within 6 seconds, then leave on MAX

Thanks for the info Regus, when you say cycle control 3 times within 6 sec.,then leave on max.I assume turn the cold control off and on 3 times within 6 sec? is that correct. I am just trying to make sure I understand. thanks again for your help
