When testing an ice maker

Hey guys, when I jump the T and the H and the fingers start to rotate, is this a good time to check if the ice makers heater is working?  Should I expect the heater will kick on?  If not, any ideas on how to check if the ice makers heater is working.

If you jump it out to make the ice maker cycle the heater should be hot to the touch when the arms advance to scoop the ice out.

Can't tell you the number of times I have went to take a ice maker out of a freezer and found out the heater was on after touching it, lol..

You should get continuity (72 ohms) between L (line) and H (heater). No continuity = bad heater.

my meter just shows there is continuity?  Doesn't stop at 72 it just does what it normally does when there is good continuity

Don't know if this ice maker is not working or if you are just trying to learn how to test them, but a freezer is going to have to be 0-5 Deg. F. before the ice maker will run because of the thermostat in the ice maker.

The ice maker is a stand alone item that needs no assistance control wise from the ice box. It fills it self and knows when it is supposed to dump. It heats itself and relieves it's self of ice and fills itself. The thang it needs the ice box to do is maintain a 28f degrees or lower so that ice mold t-stat can close and begin the dump. It also needs a good water supply valve.

And it has to be plugged into the power supply.

Yeppers it also has to be getting power to it. The chances of that being the probo is purty slim however.
