Whirlpool Duet Dryer GEW9200LQ0 No Start
« on: July 30, 2011, 03:20:13 PM »
Hi,

I have a whirlpool Duet Electric dryer model no GEW9200LQ0 that will
not start.

The power is on
the controls light up
The inside lights turn on

I press the start button, a click sounds off, and the status light shows the "sensing" light is on.

I have opened the dryer door and pressing on the door switch causes  it to click. So the door switch seems to be working.

No error codes are showing.

However when you turn the cycle knob some times the lights do not change, and I have to press the cancel button till all the light turn off, the press the control on button to see the cycle display change to the selected cycle. Other times is seems to work fine.

I also tried the diagnostic mode and all the light turn on and off, the selection knob lights turn on as you move the knob around.

No error codes come up or show on the display.

This leads me to think the problem may be in the thermestor, the thermal fuse, the belt, or the control panel.

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot and diagnose the problem?

Thanks

Unplug the unit ,remove the front bottom. Screws are on the bottom front ,pull that down and move it out of the way.Your thermal and thermistor are behind the blower housing and then you can ohm them out. Also you can make sure your belt is not broken.

OK Thanks for the quick replies... I should get my meter back 1st thing tomorrow.

Remove the bottom panel to access the thermistor, thermal fuse, and check the belt. They should read 0 ohms on the meter.

Can it be tested using the continuity where it beeps of the circuit is complete ? Or via the ohm reading x 1 scale???

Lastly what is the easiest way to check that the control panel wiring is connected correctly,,,, Is this the front panel display or the Master Control unit that the panel plugs into???? and what is the best way to check this wiring harness????

Most of the time it ain't yer wirin. Look fer blockage. Blocked air make for hot air that blows fuses. If all of that is good then check the thermistor.

OK

The thermal fuse has continuity and the meter beeps that is has continuity when it has 150 ohms or less.

The Thermistor reads open (OL reads on the display) and has no continuity.

So I need a new thermistor?
Right?
