kenmore Elite gas dryer
« on: July 28, 2011, 08:02:33 PM »
Hi  All:
i have some trouble with the dryer, when push the start button, the motor run , but stop
immediate, just run 2-3 Sec,  however, if i keep press the start button, the dryer run and heat normally, but stop as soon as i release the button

i already check continuity in the start  sw, and is ok,  i think the door sw its ok, because the motor only run if the door its closed, i check continuity in the belt sw and makes continuity with the belt in the normal position, i only check with belt on,   any idea what should i check , or could be wrong

best regards

Model 110.72982102

Your dryer probably has a broken belt switch. The switch interupts the run wires on the motor but does not effect the start winding. Click on pic to enlarge. Here is a GE dryer belt switch:

Looked up your model. Looks like it is a 4-wheel drive one. No way to know what it looks like but the innards go like in this vid:

This vid features replacing a motor like yours with the broken belt switch on it:

It's either a bad control board, W10116564, or a bad motor relay, 3405281.  Check the pink wires with black stripe at the motor relay while pressing the start button.  If you have about 48VDC the relay is bad.  If you have no voltage, the control board is bad.

webster/goods
i just disassemble it , pull out the belt, and check the belt sw for continuity, and its ok, on top position makes continuity and cut in lower position,  i connect the dryer and run the motor activating the belt sw manually, if i keep upper position the motor works, but if its release to the bottom the motor stop, im afraid its not the belt sw, and also check the  motor relay (2 pink-black wires and 2 bluewires), between two pink with blk wires make ~50vDC, even if i push or not the start button, this voltage its constant, any advice?,  i found the dryer manual
