Just aggitates and water pump keeps running
« on: July 30, 2011, 01:41:48 PM »
No matter where you set the timer, when the start button is pushed all the machine will do is agitate with no water in it and the water pump keeps running. Those GE's are nothing but trouble. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Remove the front panel and clean the gunk out of the pressure tube.

I had the pressure tube off and blew on it and could hear the water level valve clicking but that didn't make any difference it still just agitated and the water pump still just ran.

Which end was ya blowing through?
You supposed to remove the hose from the switch and get the sediment out the tub

I unhooked the hose off of the tub and blew pressure in it to make the water level  controll think it was full of water and then I released the pressure to see what it wold do and it just kept agitating and the water pump kept running no matter if it had pressure or not.

If your water pump is running and it agitates at the same time your timer is bad.

The water pressure starts from the bottom of the tub. As the water level rises the air pressure inside the tubing builds. This is what the water level switch works by. A clogged plugged leaky or loose hose can cause flooding because the pressure won't build up.

It doesn't run over, no water even come in. The tub has no water in it and it just agitates and the water pump keeps running all the time no matter where the timer is set.

Disconnect the pressure switch wires and start the machine and see what runs.

If it's agitating and draining at the same time, it's probably the control board. I see a lot of GE washers with gunk in the pressure tube.  You would think this would cause flooding but it usually doesn't.  The gunk allows pressure to build up in the tube and then acts like a check valve keeps the pressure in the tube.  The symptom is dry agitation.

Try disconnecting the pressure tube at the switch and see what happens.
