KitchenAid Fridge
« on: July 25, 2011, 02:50:06 PM »
Hello, I have a pretty generic question here.  I do not have the model number for this unit, yet.  The fridge is making a pretty loud grinding noise.  The customer let me listen to the noise over the phone and i was told the noise was coming from either the compressor or the condensor fan.  Any ideas on how to fix the grinding noise?  does this mean bad compressor?

Could be the fan blade is hitting the shroud. Some critter could have gotten down there. Sounds like an easy fix.

The evaporator fan is the one located in the freezer. You replaced the fan in the freezer?

I thought the noise was coming from down by the compressor?

Well it is hard to tell over the phone where the cust is holding the phone and most of them don't know a condenser from an evaporator.

When I got there I went behind the fridge.  compressor and condensing fan work fine and not make any noise.  I could hear the the evap fan inside the fridge make a loud grinding noise, no big deal.  So I just replace that fan because it was wiggling on its own access

If ya have a metal blade with a loose hub that rattles, get a piece of shaft the same size as the hub and put it in a vise. Slip the hub over the shaft and use a hammer and punch to make dimples in the hub. Some of the large blades get pretty pricey.

@  Jumpy As long as it is oil-able and I have my zoomspout oiler I'm there dude.  :2funny:

Before I got into repair WD-40 was the number one tool I had in the bag.  ZoomSpout might be taking that spot over  :)
