Thick Gritty Film on Glasses, Dishes Still Dirty
« on: July 23, 2011, 06:09:07 PM »
Hi everyone. We get a thick film, sometimes gritty on glasses and the dishes don't come out clean even after pre-washing them. I use the recommended soap amount (not too much) I do live in NY and they recently banned Phosphorous in detergents, but this problem was occurring before the ban. I run the tap until it's hot before starting the washer. I use jet dry set to the highest or second highest setting. I use a tub cleaner once a month and my spray arms move freely and are not clogged. I checked the vent on the door and there was debris in it. How it got there, I don't know. I cleaned out what was on the surface, but don't know if more got inside. I've done some checking on the forum and have taken apart the bottom grate to get at what i believe is the filter. It doesn't seem like I can clean it as it is sealed, but while there is debris on the inside of the filter it is not clogged or punctured. There is a small amount of debris in the sump that I am cleaning out, but it just doesn't seem like the problem to me. I hope I'm missing something simple here. My Mrs. is not happy so any help is appreciated!

Sounds like you have checked everything I can think of off hand.

I would recommend trying Lemi Shine. I use it all the time for our hard water problems.

We buy it at walmart but I have seen it in many grocery stores too. Works great for us.
Hope you find our site helpful.

I'll definitely check it out. My water isn't hard. It tested 7, but there's not much else left to check. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe another tech will think of something I missed, but let us know if the Lemi Shine does anything to help.

To find the answer---the SERIAL NUMBER of the dishwasher is needed.

I had a customer that had the same problem.  What I found was the internal seals on the top part of the sump assembly have blown out causing a reduced water pressure problem.  You will need to change the sump assembly to resolve this issue.  The part number is AJH31248604.

Good luck

Thanks wildimaginations. When I took the assembly apart the main seal (sort of tear drop shaped) that was around the impeller area was stained as if it was leaking. After switching detergent and using the Lemishine I also notices that the tops of my glasses (facing down, of course) were clear but the bottoms of the glasses still had the film, although not as thick. This would also seem to suggest reduced pump pressure as you suggested. I'll get it on order. Thanks!

Without a SERIAL NUMBER---that would be a "wild guess".

I've replaced hundreds of SUMP ASSYS---and have disassembled most of them. Never once did I see evidence of "blown gasket(s)".
I *have* seen SUMP ASSYS that were disassembled/reassembled by the *customer*---and the gasket(s) were unable to be properly reused (stretched/broken).

You say that you're a "specialist" on LG/Samsung appliances?

I'll then assume that you are an Authorized Servicer as well.

For the *6920* LG dishwasher go to LGs website and read the SERVICE CAMPAIGN which covers (10) different models of LG dishwashers. The SERIAL NUMBER becomes an important piece of information.

Also---relating the *6920* specifically---see:

The original part number is AJH31248606 which has been changed over to the universal AJH31248604.  This part number will even replace the older original sump assemblies with a slight modification to the 2 plastic holders where the corners have to be trimmed to fit the newer sump assembly.

The serial number is only needed when replacing the control board and the wire harness on dishwashers.
