Samsung Side by Side Fridge
« on: July 20, 2011, 09:47:30 PM »
Okay so I got a hold of a really nice Samsung.  It needs a repair however.  Pretty basic I think, but, I thought I would check in with you guys to get it confrimed.  The Freezer side seems to get cold, but, the fridge side is not getting cold at all.  Evap Fan?  Compressor kicks in fine and condenser fan  kicks in just fine.  If anybody has any ideas as to what it is or what else I should check please let me know.  Thanks Guys.

These friges have independant evaps for individual cooling and relies on thermistors to keep the temps. I yer thermistor is bad in that section.

I let this Samsung run over night and the freezer side is at -4 and the fridge side is at 48 degrees.  Seems like it is cold, but, 48 is a little high.  Where do I locate the thermistor in order to test it?

Still no luck on the samsung.  I can barely get anything taken apart.  These units are nice, but, very annoying

Test it from the control board.

Check your air flow.  If it's frozen up it will need to defrost for a few days before you can get it apart.

This Samsung is the next thing I really need to tackle, there is good money in it for me if I can get it going.  It has a mind of its own.  When I first picked it up the temps weren't up to par at all on either side, I left the unit alone for a couple days then plugged it back in.  For 48 hours the unit has been cooling perfectly on both sides.  It is a catch 22 though.  I know the unit has a bad history, yet, when it cools this well for two days it makes me really want to go ahead and sell it.  Any thoughts guys?

Make sure the refrigerator has been running for at least 48 hours.

Press and hold the Power Freeze button and the Power Cool button for 8 seconds.  It will go into Self Diagnostic check mode.  The display will blank out.  If there is a problem, the display will tell you what it is.  Let me know what lights show up.

Thanks for the tip.  I pressed the power cool and power freeze buttons for 8 seconds and the screen turned blank.  Nothing showed up after the screen went blank so I pressed them again and it went back into it's regular mode.  Any conclusions?

I am assuming that you have a good frost pattern on both evaporators.

Check the evaporator fan motor to see if it's frozen.  Since it only works for 48 hours then shuts off, I can assume that the fan motor is your problem.

Good luck.
