Amana Fridge evap fan not spinning

hey, yesterday the fan was spinning great on this amana.  I check the continuity and it checks out great.  Any ideas as to why the fan would not be spinning right now?  What else should I check out?

I did not, would you mind explaining that?  But, I have another issue.  The compressor and the compressor fan stopped all together.  I still have lights on the inside, but, other than that it is just a hunk a metal at this point.  It was working great last night so I am a little confused

Go to the hardware store and get some Zoomspout oil add a little to each end bell on the motor and work it free. This oil is the best stuff you could have in your tool box. Safe on all major appliances and HVAC applications.

okay I will.  Any ideas as to why the compressor and the compressor fan stopped working.  What should I look into there?

The compressor and condenser fan (compressor fan) should run together.

If nether one is running it could be stuck in defrost or the cold control could be stuck open.

You know I do not have the model number for this unit.  It is a little older, probably 12 or 13 years old and the model number is no where to be found.  But, Ill tell ya this fridge has a mind of its own.  Couldn't get the evap fan to spin then this morning it just kicked on this unit cools great, I am just worried it doesn't always do what it is supposed too.  I sure wish it would do I what I want it to do when I want it to do it

I think AJ's suggestion is on target.
Bad defrost control or bad cold control.

Ya, the compressor will kick back on but then the evap fan won't kick back on when the compressor does.  What should I test.  the cold control or the defrost thermostat? I don't even know where the timer is on this unit

I'm starting to find your post confusing. In one post you say...

Then in other posts you talk about the evap fan.

What fan is it that is not running for you?

Well, the condenser fan stops working when the compressor shuts off.  That doesn't usually last long, the condenser fan and compressor will turn back on, but, when they kick back on the evap fan doesn't turn on.  The evap fan started working this morning, but, then stopped when the fridge went into defrost mode then kicked back on.  Does that make sense?

With out a model number I can't say for sure, but I believe some older models had a thermostat connected to the evaporator fan. The coils would then have to get so cold first then the thermostat would close and then the evaporator fan would start to run.

This is all just a guess without being able to look up your model, but of coarse you can take it apart yourself, check voltages and follow wires to see what you got.

Mean while while the coils get cold all the food should that needs to be cooled will go bad, that seems like a really stupid set up.  He is a picture of what I am looking at.  It looks like someone put a defrost thermostat in there at some point.

I have not seen this type of set up for sometime now, but from what I remember the delay before the fan started running was not that long. Just long enough that you started to wonder if the fan was going to kick in or not and about the time you decided to take it apart to check things the fan started running...

In no way was the delay in starting the evap fan long enough to make food spoil.
