Should be coolder
« on: July 08, 2011, 05:53:39 AM »
Hi, I pulled inside panel to evaporator thinking it was the evaporator fan (it was working fine) but did notice right side of coil (about 6 inches) solid block of ice. I do HVAC and can follow and instructions you throw at me. Thanks, fcharb

Remove the service panel. Verify the defrost control is working by advancing it to the defrost mode. Check your defrost heater for continuity if it is ok then I suspect it probably is the termination thermostat.
Terminator replacement (this turns the heater off after a coupla mins)

Heater replacement

If all you see is a block of ice on one side of the evap coils. i would be thinking sealed system problem, but if you saw frost and some ice. i would think the heater was working, becuase if you see ice that tells me frost has been melting, then i would check drain.
