Parts needed on truck

I am curious to know what are the most commonly stocked parts on your trucks?  Do you guys stock 100 parts or just 10 or 20 of the most commonly used parts?

I would guess the answer to this is going to very a lot depending on the size of truck, how big of a area you cover and the brands you work on.

Counting all the little parts I'm sure there are hundreds of parts in stock on my truck.

I must stock 10-20 parts just for the whirlpool direct drive washers on my truck.

Wow, when you break it down like that it seems like a huge undertaking. 

JW, My truck is actually a Ford Explorer with the back seats taken out of it.  It can hold a lot I would assume.  Mostly just working on refrigerators and dryers.

For the icebox you gonna need to stock 3n1 hard starts, some condenser fan motors,(2w cw 120v)  a few evap fan motors and some defrost terminators. For dryers you gonna need some restring kits, some rollers, belts, and idlers. Things like dryer motors and timers I would not bother stocking. have a dryer pigtail 4 and 3 wire type, Some approved dryer vent pipe for your area, some thermal limits and fuses, hi temp glue for loose felt, and some dryer door latches.

It is and as your business grows so will your inventory. There are other business and software programs built around keeping track of inventory. It's not just keeping track of what you have on hand, but how much you paid, profit made, when and were you ordered from, etc.... the list could go on and on depending how detailed you want to get.

Could be, I have repaired a lot of direct drive washers.

What do I do if I get a call on something weird that I may not be able to fix?

Anyone can repair anything, it's all just depends on how much time and money you want to put into it.

As you start out there maybe things that take longer to trouble shoot then they should, but that is going to be one way you learn. It's also a way to learn that you never forget, unlike just reading about how to fix it.

AJ do you always fix stuff at the cust home or do you tell em it needs emergency surgery and take it to yer shop? I would rather folks brang the stuff to me.

Everything I work on gets repair in the home.

I get paid for what I know, not what I do.

What I love is the restaurant owners complaining how much a repair costs  and then leave in their Mercedes.

Ill be at a customers house and they will come up to me every 2 minutes wondering what I found out, Im like uhhhh still working on it.  I wish I could do it in 5 minutes, seems like that is the customers expectation.

My old company has started a new policy $85.00 per hour minimum 1 1/2 hours paid up on phone with credit card or no service. This is for customers without accounts.
