Whirpool Washer Will Not Drain
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:40:21 PM »
Hey, I made a thread here a few years ago about my fridge defrost cycle (I think I broke the record for longest repair thread, lol) and you guys were all very helpful so I hope you can help me again.

After washing the clothes before it reaches the rinse cycle it will not drain the water out of the tub. You hear it clicking for a few seconds and then it stops before it would usually drain. I noticed a small amount of water right under the washer a few inches wide, but I can't say for sure that it wasn't there with previous wash cycles since I have never pulled the washer out before.

My first guess after doing a little reading online was that is the water pump or timer? What do you guys think? I'm really a novice at this but I'm willing to give it a try if it something you guys are pretty sure about.

Thanks

Model LSR5232LQ1

Your washer is a direct drive model that has the pump mounted on the motor on one end and the other end drives the tranny on this bad boy. You must have a object in the pump as seen in this video:

oh wow, I never would have guessed that. How likely is it that is the problem?

A family member brought the wet clothes to another family members house to finish rinsing the dirty water out of the clothes so i'll find out if all the sock and other articles are accounted for...

I have seen pantys and bras in em. Most of the time you can dig out the object and party on!

Also, any precautions I should take other than having the power cord unplugged? I'm just going to be exploring trying to figure out how to take the panels off and don't want to kill myself with any stray capacitors or something.

wow, I never realized that tub held so much water. I had to empty it bucket by bucket via the drain hose, but of course it kept missing and water got everywhere, AND the vinyl floor underneath the washer tore when I moved the machine because it was so heavy with all the water. Anyway, I got the pump off and it clooked clear and spins (but it doesn't seem to spin very easily, I mean, its not supposed to feel like it has ball bearings on it, is it?)

Anyway, while the front half of the machine was laying on the floor I noticed the lid switch  is in two pieces and just all falling apart... Could that keep it from draining?

Yes, a broken lid switch prevents draining.

You have no idea how happy that makes me that it is only a $25 or so part I need to replace.

Just to confirm, is this the correct part I need to buy?
