outlet thermostat (Manual reset) keeps tripping
« on: June 22, 2011, 11:42:03 AM »
Hi,

On my DLG5932W gas dryer, the Outlet Thermostat (Manual reset) part no 6931EL3003C keeps tripping.

I measured the temp inside the dryer using a meat thermometer (tested with boiling water)

on Speed Dry, High Temp
with Vent attached - goes up to 200 F, then down to 125 then back up to 200F
then without the Vent attached, it does the same thing

I read on other posts that the temp should only get up to 165 F, and also thats what the service manual states as well.

so my question is, does the thermsistor control when the gas turns on and shuts off?  I'm going to guess that I have a bad/inaccurate thermsistor?  Does this happen?

thx

The control mounted on the blower housing measures the drum temp as it passes by going to the outside. If it is off then it is going to overheat.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to test the Thermsistor Assembly part no 6323EL2001B when I get home by checking the internal temp using the meat thermometer, and by using the Diagnostic Test Mode to see what the Current Temp is registering.

Have you removed the blower wheel and looked for junk in there? Is the blower wheel ok?

1. did the diagnostic test mode, and ran the dryer, measured 90 C using meat thermometer inside the dryer, dryer display read 70 C, about 20 C difference.

2. checked the blower wheel, everything looked good.

Next step, I guess I have to rip it apart and check the controller and also check the thermsistor to determine which part to order, a controller or thermsistor.

thx

I would go with the cheaper part first. Then if you gotta bite the bullet you have all the bases covered right?

Replace the manual reset switch.  LG recommends replacing this part when it trips because the internal temperature settings are out of sync once it trips.

Check your temps at the exhaust vent...not inside the dryer.

Replace the manual reset switch.  LG recommends replacing this part when it trips because the internal temperature settings are out of sync once it trips.

Close.

The HIGH TEMPERATURE LIMITER "pops/opens" when the temperature of the BURNER HOUSING exceeds normal range.

This is usually caused by a blocked or partially blocked exhaust vent system.
However---LG has found that on some models---the THERMOSTAT (also located on the Heater Housing) can be faulty---not shutting off the GAS FLAME at the right temperature. This then causes the HIGH TEMP LIMITER to shut-down the flame.

Replace BOTH---the HIGH TEMPERATURE LIMITER and the THERMOSTAT.
