Arghh, Help,It wont agitate.
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:59:44 AM »
 :tickedoff:

ok, for starters, under no circumstances will my 20 plus year old machine go to the landfill like a previous poster did. This Kenmore series 70 heavy duty washing machine was given to me by my gramps when i moved out.

with the parting words of  a woman will love you, broke, hungry, lonely, but but a woman will never love a man with dirty skivvies.

so i kept this machine with me since then...

just a few days ago, the machine crapped out... :tickedoff:

ok here is the problem...

1.  the water fills.

2. the machine starts but does not agitate. it goes through the motion of washing but the center piece doesnt spin it just sits there.. the bottom portion  moves but very minimally.

3.   the machine reaches the spin stage then dumps its water and starts the rinse cycle and  it does it again.. no agitation..

Im mechanically inclined, but im certianly no pro... can someone point me in the right direction..  ill dump my girlfirend before i dump my machine.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need to replace the agitator Dogs, $2.79.

This video will show you how to replace the dogs.

Click here to order the 'dogs' for your washer.

Its the same link I posted above for the 'Dogs, $2.79'.

I looked up your model number to see what you had to start with, but these dogs are common to all direct drive style washers such as yours.

Your washer has a two piece agitator. The bottom part agitates back and forth in the same spot. The top part of the agitator is made to ratchet in one directions.

With the washer off and the lid open you should be able to place your hand on top of the agitator and turn it one direction with out the bottom half moving. When you try to turn the top of the agitator the opposite directions the dogs should keep it from turning.

If you can freely move the top of the agitator by hand both directions then the 'dogs' need to be replaced.

The washer spins ok?

If you want to do some washing get a file and file the dogs down so they will have some grooves in em and party on!

are the dog ears the most common problem for agitators to fail?

If the bottom half of the agitator agitates back and fourth ok, but the top of the agitator does not do much of anything then it's always the dogs.

I've ordered 40 in the last year and only have 3 left.  Whenever I'm in a laundry room I always give the agitator a spin whether I'm working on the washer or not.  You'd be surprised how many people don't realize there was anything wrong with their washer.

Yep, dogs are a easy sell and they are dirt cheap to stock.
