FRT21il6jb2 Bad tasting ICE
« on: May 03, 2011, 08:11:43 PM »
What do you do for a customer with Bad tasting ice... Tech line said Must be the customers water or something in the freezer...

but this one has had the water line to the water valve , Water valve, water line to the ice maker and the ice maker changed by other techs...

I took the water line off at the water valve ... water was fine tasting.. water thru the water valve was fine... so the water line to the ice maker must be the stinker....also there is a lot of air in the water that goes to the ice maker.

was coming to the taste like metal in it...

how do you get the bad taste out of the water line?

thanks JW... this will be the third water valve...

I was thinking of hooking up a cheater cord to the water valve and run tons of water into the sink to clear out the tube... But I don't know how much will do it....or even if it will work..

I take it there isn't a lot of air in all the house lines normally?  Pin hole in the top of the water line feeding the ice maker?  Even that doesn't sound like it would entrain air long enough for it to freeze.

At this point, check for an Alka Seltzer tablet in the ice maker funnel.  LOL

Do they have hard water in their house? It may be calcium or other minerals that are making the water cloudy. If the water filter wasn't changed for a while, there may be a build up in the water line to the freezer that is causing the cloudy water.

It was the water valve .,,,

Water tasted fine up to it tastes like metal after it... I ended up putting an inline filter after the water valve..Customer Happy ... this was a real weird one.... I don't know why a water valve would make the water taste bad but it did......
