Sunbeam room air conditioner

Sunbeam SCK14,2000DR Room Air Conditioner -
Works good until the afternoon weather heats up, then the AC throws the 15 amp breaker-switch.  The AC is the only thing on the circuit. The filter and condenser louvers are all clean and it is not on an extension cord.   What causes this problem?  Might it be the transformer?

I would see how many amps the unit is drawing. If it is withinspec I would suspect the circuit breaker that the ac is running on to be going out.

I have already replaced the breaker switch.  I have a hand held tester I can use to test the amp draw but where do I attach the leads?

How many amps should it be drawing and if the draw is too high then what would be the cause.

I was told that the problem could be the wires inside the transformer could be separating when it gets hot and then when it cools, the wires constrict so it works correctly again – until the next time it heats-up.

Using an ammeter you connect the clamp on over one wire only. Look on the nomenclature tag and see what the unit's running amp draw is. Then fire that mutha up and see how many amps shes pulling. Click on pic to enlarge:
