GE Profile dishwasher won't drain

Hello,

My GE Profile dishwasher, about 6 years old, suddenly stopped draining the other day, leaving a pool of dirty dish water at the bottom. The dishes are also not fully clean. It's been working like a champ up until now. I understand a top culprit - among other potential causes - is the drain or pipe between the dishwasher and the garbage disposal (my best guess as well, since our garbage disposal is awful so may have clogged something).

In any case, anyone have any instructions how to go about diagnosing the problem? I'm unfamiliar with dishwasher repair (and can't find the manual), so any pictures or directions re: finding the location of these parts would be appreciated as well.

Your drain pump is separate from your wash/circulation pump.
Remove the drain hose from the disposal and place it in a small bucket.
Set the controls for drain and see if it pumps out the water.
If not, the drain pump must be checked for voltage during the drain cycle.
If the pump has voltage,replace the pump.
If it pumps water out during the test,check the disposal for a clogged drain inlet.
