This is the Whirlpool tall tub design.  The most common issue with these is the pump inlet clogging.  I've seen higher than normal pump motor failures on these.  I have the same design Kitchenaid in my house and other than cleaning out the pump I haven't had any problems.
When Whirlpool bought Maytag I thought they should have kept and improved Maytag's tall tub design, but they didn't ask me.
