Kenmore - washer does not spin

Hi All,

My Kenmore washer spins intermittently. Most of the time it just does not spin. On the spin cycle, I hear a humming, but the clothes are still wet. I usually have to give it a push and it would go. For this I would stick a pen in the switch - if I close the lid the spin stops again.

Over the week-end even the work-around did not work - it just stopped working. I tried it again today and it worked - with the manual push start.

Can I fix this, or do I need to call sears?

More than likely a bad lid switch I would say.

The lid switch is just inside the cabinet on the right side. There are lots of references on this forum as to how to get the cabinet off. From there, replacing the lid switch is a 5 minute job.  See the following page for the video:
