My 3.5 ton Amana central unit

8:45 pm (Right now) I was feeling warm in the house just now. The temp is clear and 78f. I go to the back door look outside and the frost is covered over the suction line. That tells me the friggin A-coil is iced over. What should be my next move? Filters are clean.

Set the unit for heat and run it until the coil defrost.
Check the indoor fan motor .Is it up to speed?
Check refrigerant charge,probably low.

I moved the thermostat up to 72 from 70. So far the frost is not re-occuring but it has been hotter. The idiot that installed the furnace has it crammed inside a tiny closet. My brother had to remove all the molding and the door so that it could be installed. No thought at all had been put into servicing the unit. The vent pipe would have to be removed and all the foil tape around the a-coil just to get to the a-coil.
Pisses me off everytime I look at his phone number on the plenum. Hah very funny. Gonna get another $5k out of an old woman. This unit was installed without my knowledge before I retired.

I love when I walk into jobs like that    Like you, I usually cuss the installers.  Sometimes though, there just isn't any where to install it.  It just makes me appreciate the wide open attics with decking filled in
