I have a stackable washer/gas dryer combo from GE. Model #WSM2780TAWWB The dryer is heating correctly but on occasion I will turn it on and the drum won't spin. At first I could rotate the drum with my hand, close it and it would start right back up and then that stopped working. I opened the front panel to check the belt assuming it had snapped and it was fine. I called a repair service who of course came over and saw the drum spin just fine. They cleaned the dryer but said the belt and innards of the dryer were a-ok. Of course the next time I used the dryer the drum did not spin. I opened it up again and this time tugged gently on the belt where it meets the pulley and heard a click/snap noise, as if something was off the track. That seemed to fix it for the day but the next weekend when I ran another load it happened again. The same tugging did the trick but I'm looking to figure out the root cause.
Des anyone know why this might be working? I can't really get a good view of the pulley when I tug the belt. Should I try to replace the belt anyway or the pulley? I can't find any diagrams to show me how to access these parts more directly. The belt feels brittle but still very tight, I don't want to call another repair service if they are going to tell me nothing is wrong. I'd rather give it a try myself to see if we can avoid another service call.
