Project: French Door
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:54:57 PM »
Before repairing it I thought yall might like to tag along. I have outside a dang nice stainless steel 3 door frig. It features an automatic defrost board. The complaint is all the food is freezing. I have not even plugged it in. I want input from yall as to why the ice box is freezing everything up. I cannot remember what you do to initiate defrost on these. Since it is freezing everything up I have to suspect the damper is not closing, the cold control is not shutting down. Larry thinks it might be a defrost problem or a control problem. I am leaning toward the thermostatically controlled damper not closing. I intend to post pictures of the repair yall. Gimme some idears of what to look fer and how to make the defrost kick in if yall can. This should be fun.  O0

I plugged it in around lunch time. I had the controls in the OFF position. The lights was on but nothing else. I turned on the temp control in the freezer and she came to life. Compressor and fans are all all ok. Cooling nicely. I set the damper fan to the start position.
So what's it gonna be yall the damper, the cold control, or the defrost board?
Guess I am gonna have to keep some cold bevs in there till I find out.

take a pic of the controls for me!!  I think that machine has a "jazz board" and you should be able to use the maytag french door service manual to get into diagnostics.  You can operate everything remotely from the display in the ref section.

I looked up the model number and it uses defrost timer board, part # 12566102

Food in fresh food freezing? Not a defrost control. Damper motor sticking or control.

Yeah I was leaning toward a bad damper. The control is in the freezer and it is mercury based. The damper has it's own mercury based control and what it does is open up to allow freezer temp to cool the fresh food compartment. Also the damper is no longer available. So that is why I am thinking the guy donated the ice box to Larry.
