Hello,

Recently the fridge and freezer stopped working on my Whirlpool (ED5VHEXVQ01) fridge. After doing some diagnosis using the web - I came to the conclusion that the hard start of the compressor went bad (it rattled after I removed it). Ended up buying the Supco RCO810 3in1 start hard start kit and hoped that would fix the issue, unfortunately it doesnt seem that it did - I hear it's trying to start but the compressor isnt starting up. Besides the regular red wire, there were 2 white wires which I combined to the 1 power wire from the hard start (see picture).

I'm now wondering if this starter is enough for the compressor in my fridge (Embraco EM2Z 80HLT). Can anyone give me some guidance as to how I can determine what is wrong with the fridge?

Hard start kit is a good way to ruin it.Buy the O.E.M part. W10189190

So I'm not opposed to buying the OEM part, but I've cut off the piece that clicks onto the starter of the compressor already to make this work. What other part will I need to fix this?
Also - I keep reading mixed reviews on the hard start kits. Some have successfully used them in a fridge for years & years.

Read this attach. And you may what to try this relay. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/pro-universal-relay-overl-tj90uro41-ap4503418.html
Also ohm out the compressor termnials to make sure there good.Check for ground compressor.I always use O.E.M.Also possible compressor is bad.

 :thanks:
Thank you!
That's all really good information. I will start by ordering the starter-part. However, as I said before - I cut the piece that connects to that to give it power... Am I misunderstanding that this is what the relay would fix? I have 2 white wires and 1 red wire (and one green ground wire) for power that are now exposed due to me trying to add the 3in1 starter.

(I dont have much technical knowledge of these things I'm afraid - nor the equipment to perform the tests you're talking about)

Assuming you hooked it up correctly, if it won't start with a hard start, it won't start. Your compressor is bad.

You can always ohm out the compressor to see it it has an open winding.

Thank you for all the help thus far...

So if I order the OEM part, how do I go about reconnecting this connector? Just buying some wire and hooking it back up?
I had to cut this so I could attach the 3in1 start, but as stated before, that's not been working.
If the OEM part doesn't work - the compressor is more than likely out and that will push me to buy a new fridge all together (I dont think the cost of replacing a compressor outweighs the cost of being a new fridge).

Suggections?
