Really have not seen a weak transformer
1: noisy ( making a humming noise) winding vibrating (isolator breakdown)
            (vibrating on cabinet)
2: smelly (overheat primary windings)
3: Open (break in primary windings) No output at all

So what would cause a weak transformer?

Might have been a defect in the windings or moisture problem.

Yes the mag could be breaking down causing low wattage. Normally would short out soon. I didn't think anyone repaired them anymore unless pricey overrange models.
